The Business of Hiring Veterans with Disabilities

Selima Ani disabilityworks CBLN Managing Director

Early in 2009, several prominent Chamber members approached the disabilityworks team seeking assistance in the recruitment veterans with disabilities. These, among many Chicagoland companies, realize that the United States is facing an ever-increasing number of returning Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom Veterans who have valuable skills, knowledge, experience, work ethic, and also happen to have service-related injuries. Illinois currently ranks 7th in the nation for returning veterans with service-related injuries.

Chicagoland Chamber PAC Endorsed Pro-Business/Pro-Jobs Candidates in 2010 Primary Race

The Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce Political Action Committee supports candidates who are advocates for business friendly policies.

The Chamber PAC supported candidates based upon their response to candidate questionnaires, their overall business stance, and incumbents' past support for pro-business issues.

Executive Director of disabilityworks at Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce

Through My Eyes was a regular column in Business@Work designed to provide the business community with a place where they can talk about persons with disabilities in the workforce. The column was hosted by a registered nurse, entrepreneur and person with disabilities herself -- Karen McCulloh, executive director of the Chicagoland Chamber's disabilityworks program. Over the past four years, McCulloh dedicated herself to making a vision of disabilityworks into a reality. While she will be missed greatly as disabilityworks executive director, we all wish her well as she reinstates her consultant service business and completes a book publishing contract.
