Achieving Well-Being@Home & Engagement@Work
Individual well-being is a state that provides tremendous personal benefit to those fortunate enough to craft that condition for themselves. For employers it is a critical nexus to workplace engagement.
In this workshop Dr. Chet Taranowski and Bill Heffernan will discuss the conditions, both macro and micro, that lead to personal well-being. Workplace engagement and its benefits will be described. Particular attention will be paid to the conditions at the workplace level and the individual level that lead to and support engagement.
By the end of this workshop attendees will be able to:
List the macro-issues that contribute to individual experience of well being
Describe the individual characteristics and correlates of happiness
Define engagement
List the workplace benefits of engagement
Describe four basic interventions to support employee engagement

Chester J. Taranowski, Ph.D. CEAP:
Chet Taranowski has been the Employee Assistance Coordinator at Aon Services Corporation for the last 18 years. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Dr Taranowski was extensively involved in planning and providing services to Aon employees and their families during the Sept 11 World Trade Center catastrophe. He is Past President of the Northern Illinois Employee Assistance Professionals Association and is on the editorial board of the Journal of Workplace Behavioral Health. He lectures frequently on ethics in social work practice, positive psychology, and psychological responses to disaster trauma. He was the recipient of the prestigious 2010 International Employee Assistance Professional, "Professional of the Year" award presented by the Employee Assistance Professionals.
William Heffernan, MS, CEAP: Bill Heffernan co-founded Employee Resource Systems, Inc. (ERS) a national provider of employee assistance program services in 1993, after gaining extensive experience as a corporate consultant specializing in Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and Drug-Free Workplace program services. In 2000 a second venture was undertaken and ScreenSafe Inc., a corporation that specializes in the administration of drug testing programs for labor unions, was formed. He served as the Chairman of the Board for Community Health Charities of Illinois and in 2007, was named "Volunteer of the Year" by Community Health Charities of America. He is a Past President of the Board of The Northern Illinois Chapter of the Employee Assistance Professionals Association (NIEAPA) where in 1999 he was selected as the Employee Assistance Professional of the year.
